This is a good product, but Avent should have added a timer or an automatic shut-off feature. I don’t mind taking the extra step of setting the timer on the microwave, but in terms of convenience (which is why we buy these products), this only deserves four stars instead of five. Other than that, the milk in the bottles are consistently warmed up at 4 minutes, and it is definitely more convenient than sitting them in hot water for who knows how long.

I was under the impression this would be new and it it’s original box. This was not the case but it works well and was in pretty good condition.

It defrosts fast but the temperature stay hot. After warming, we always have to cool the warmed (more like hot) milk in running water before feeding it to the baby. When I bought this, I thought that the warmer will only warm up the milk to the feedable temperature. We it gets 3 stars cause it’s great for defrosting and it’s good to have then not to have.

So we have a 2-year old and a month-old baby. We had owned and been pleased with “The First Years Quick Serve Bottle Warmer” but the bottom of it had–over the past 18 months’ worth of us–become covered with a layer of film of some sort… which was gradually making it take longer & longer to heat the bottles (fairly understandable, as it had probably been used 1,800 times in the past year and a half). So I went to Amazon and was planning on just ordering another one when I saw the Philips Avent version. I read the reviews and decided to go with it (despite being over 2x the price of the other one). Here are the pros/cons of the the Philips Avent:

Cons:

* Terribly short cord. Unless it reaches right to your sink (and mine doesn’t) it’s a huge pain to fill up. My counter usually had water all over it when I was done. And there’s not point adding a 3-foot extension cord to it–do you really want cords all over your kitchen counter?

* Ditto getting the water out of the unit when finished. Again, because mine didn’t reach to the sink. I’d have to unplug the unit from the wall and dump it out before plugging it back in for use later that day.

* The cord is so stiff/thick and didn’t lay flat out of the box, causing the unit to sit at an angle.

* I always forgot to turn off the power switch at the back of the unit. Why it doesn’t shut off on it’s own, I’ll never know. Another big pain.

* Agree with other reviewers that the indicator light that tells you when a bottle is ready is not intuitive.

* The instructions only explain how to use the unit with Philips Advent bottles (we own Born Free). Not helpful.

Pros:

* When properly run, the unit heated the bottle thoroughly. Too bad it’s such a huge pain to make it run right.

SUMMARY: This morning, I boxed the Philips unit back up and put it away. Bye-bye, $40. I went onto Amazon and ordered a new First Years bottle… and figured I’d write this review to stop other potential parents from making the same mistake we did.

it’s a great steam sterilizer as advertised. i think people think a sterilizer means it is a bottle cleaner (you have to put clean bottles/parts in). it’s also fast and easy to use. no problems and have been using it for 5+ months.
